9 May 2003In reply to your email of 6 May 2003 inquiring about Iraq, the Universal House of Justice has asked us to convey the following. Since conditions in Iraq remain unsettled and it will take some time for full knowledge to be gained about the situation of our coreligionists there, the House of Justice is not yet ready to make any detailed announcement concerning the status of the Faith in that country. It is, however, following developments closely with a view to making such an announcement as soon as circumstances allow. Suffice it to say that, according to reliable information received at the Bahá’í World Centre, the Iraqi believers are safe and so, too, is the Most Great House. The House of Justice recognizes how eager the friends throughout the world are for news about their long-suffering fellow believers in Iraq in the wake of the dramatic changes resulting from the recent conflict, but as matters remain very sensitive, they are urged to be patient for a while longer and to refrain from repeating rumors.
With loving Bahá’í greetings,
